About Mark Hinds Optometrists
Welcome to Mark Hinds Optometrists!
We are an independently owned and operated optometry Practice located in Teneriffe. Our mission is to improve the standard of living for our patients through our personal and professional care.
We offer complete eyecare for spectacles, contact lenses, specialty contact lenses, children’s vision, binocular vision issues, Dry eye and emergencies (etc., we focus on all areas of eye health). We have state of the art testing equipment, in the video to the left is Dr Hinds taking you through our practice. Although, since that video we have vastly updated all of our equipment and testing rooms. Although we are one Australia’s busiest specialty contact lens practices, we do everything from basic consults to emergencies to complex cases of contact lens fitting!
We are one of the first practices in Australia to have a dedicated myopia control clinic for children with progressive myopia. Dr Hinds is one of the few practitioners in Australia to be awarded with a Fellow of International Orthokeratology and Myopia Control.
Our optometrists are therapeutically qualified, and trained under Dr Hinds, which means we can treat various infections and other ocular issues which require prescription eye drops. Your eye specialist may ask you to see us for a prescription for your ocular medications or to see us long term.
Dr Hinds works in tandem with some of Queensland’s best optometrists, doctors and ophthalmologists in order to give the best possible ongoing care both to our and their patients.
Here at Mark Hinds Optometrists, checking your vision and if you require glasses or contact lenses is only one aspect of an eye exam. We also detect and track progression ocular health and even general health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure (which is also linked to your ocular health).
Our practice takes great pride in providing the most comprehensive eye examination possible, using state of the art equipment to assist us in the assessment of your vision and ocular health. If one of our optometrists recommends extra testing (Digital Retinal Images (DRI), Corneal Topography, Visual Field (VF) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) tests), our optometrist will talk you through the results and reasoning behind the extra testing.
Through these tests you may get to meet some more of our lovely staff; Axel who is our Ophthalmic Technician or Ava who is our Optometric Assistant are always happy to assist the Optoms with whatever extra testing is required.
In addition to our examination equipment, we also have a wide range of premium spectacles, sunglasses and contact lenses so that all of your care can be completed in clinic. Please note that we are NOT part of any buying groups or franchise store, we selectively and carefully choose the optimum products for what is best for our patients. We also have the ability to take any glasses you may have or would like to buy from elsewhere and put our lenses in them. We try to be as adaptable to you as the patient we can be, you might say that we custom-eyes each eye every time.

Our practice will continue to ensure that there will be as little out of pocket fee as we can. We are involved with RBWH, PA Hospital, Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital and Mater Hospital ophthalmology co-management for special cases that require specialty care, such as: specialty contact lenses for myopia, post graft corneas, keratoconus and corneal irregularity.
If you are referred from the RBWH, Mater, Lady Cilento or the PA ophthalmology department please bring your referral letter with you at your first consultation (and URL number if you know it). If you’ve been referred to us for keratoconus please watch Dr Hinds’ video: So you think that you have keratoconus?
We love being a part of the Teneriffe and greater community and do our best to give every patient the highest quality of care and product possible.
