Age Related Macular Degeneration eye exams
Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) is the leading cause of vision loss in Australian’s over the age of 50. One in seven people in that age group show signs of macular degeneration. Our OCT takes a cross-section of you macula to assess areas of macular degeneration and is used to monitor these areas over time. It is important to complete scans and monitor regularly in case dry ARMD turns to wet ARMD. If there are areas of deterioration, we can refer you onto some of the best retinal specialists for further care.
One of our optometrists may have given you an Amsler Grid. If you notice any changes in your Amsler Grid please contact us ASAP.

Glaucoma eye exams
In eye examinations specified in glaucoma treatment and monitoring, a complete comprehensive assessment of the health of your optic nerve will be conducted. This will include an OCT exam and a fundus photo to assess the health of your eyes both quantitatively and qualitatively. Our technology and database system allows us to easily compare results over time (for as long as you have been seeing us) allowing us to monitor progression and successfully co-manage with specialist ophthalmologists.
DIABETIC EYE EXAMS
For those undertaking a diabetic eye exam we dilate the pupil and take a photograph using our Digital Retinal Imaging (DRI) machine. We will conduct this exam annually to ensure that there are no issues or changes. We will forward a report onto your GP and specialist so they can see exactly how things are going. As we have stated earlier, we have a very close working relationship with some of Australia’s best retinal specialist ophthalmologists and can arrange further referral and monitoring in-between care when needed.

We use the latest optometric testing equipment as only premium eye care is acceptable:
- Visual acuity equipment including: Topcon auto-refractor, auto-keratometer, auto-pachometer (central corneal thickness), auto-tonometer and CV-5000 computerised refractor head and vision tester for extreme accuracy.
- Optical Coherence Tomography using REVO technology gives us fine details of ARMD and glaucoma detection, management and care. Our OCT can also image the anterior segment helping us with mini-scleral and scleral contact lenses along with other RGP designs for our keratoconic, post corneal graft and irregular corneal patients. It is also able to measure axial length to monitor for myopia progression in children. The length of the eye changes with myopia / short sightedness so it is important we record and track this to see how our treatment is working. We do our very best to manage children with progressive myopia to keep them in good stead for the best possible outcome for the rest of their lives. High myopia carries with it many ocular problems and if it can be avoided it should be!
- Digital retinal imaging using high definition Nikon (12MP) digital cameras and computerised imaging for early detection and monitoring of retinal pathology. We also have high resolution Digital Retinal Scanner for retinal imaging.
- Medmont corneal topographer with digital contact lens simulation for complicated eyes and specialty contact lens fitting and ability to send imaging directly to laboratory for lens manufacture.
- Medmont visual field analyser with video feed for accurate field assessment and monitoring for issues such as glaucoma, age related macular degeneration (ARMD) and field loss.
- Oculus keratograph 5 for extensive dry eye assessment including tear break up time, meibography, tear meniscus height analysis, fluorescein assessment and many more.
- We have an extensive range of contact lens trial sets in both soft and rigid gas permeable contact lenses.
- Children’s vision assessment tools are extensive to detect any issues that may hinder learning. We aim to ensure that your child has the best visual skills for learning.
