About Mark Hinds Optometrists
Independent Optometry in Teneriffe, Brisbane
Welcome to Mark Hinds Optometrists, an independently owned and operated optometry practice located in Teneriffe, Brisbane.
Our focus is simple: to provide high-quality, personalised eye care using advanced diagnostic technology, clinical experience and carefully selected optical products. We care for patients of all ages, from routine eye examinations through to complex corneal disease, dry eye disease, keratoconus, myopia management and specialty contact lenses.
At Mark Hinds Optometrists, an eye examination is about much more than checking whether you need glasses. We assess your vision, eye health, ocular surface, focusing system, binocular vision and, where required, the deeper structures of the eye using advanced imaging and diagnostic testing.
Comprehensive Eye Care for the Whole Family
We provide a wide range of optometry services, including:
- Comprehensive eye examinations
- Prescription spectacles and sunglasses
- Contact lenses and specialty contact lenses
- Children’s vision assessments
- Myopia control and orthokeratology
- Dry eye disease assessment and management
- Keratoconus and corneal irregularity care
- Emergency eye care and red eye assessment
- Ocular disease monitoring
- Therapeutic eye care and prescription eye drop management
Our optometrists are therapeutically qualified and can manage a range of ocular conditions requiring prescription eye drops, including many inflammatory and infectious eye problems. We also work closely with ophthalmologists, general practitioners and other healthcare providers when specialist medical or surgical care is required.
Advanced Technology and Clinical Imaging
Our practice has invested heavily in modern diagnostic equipment to help provide accurate, detailed and efficient eye care.
Depending on your clinical needs, your examination may include:
- Digital retinal imaging
- Optical coherence tomography imaging
- Corneal topography and tomography
- Anterior segment imaging
- Visual field testing
- Intraocular pressure assessment
- Dry eye and tear film assessment
- Meibomian gland imaging
- Contact lens and corneal shape analysis
These tests allow us to detect, monitor and manage a wide range of eye conditions, including glaucoma, macular disease, diabetic eye disease, keratoconus, dry eye disease and other corneal disorders.
If additional testing is recommended, our team will explain why it is being performed and talk you through the results in clear, practical language.
Specialty Contact Lenses and Complex Corneal Care
Mark Hinds Optometrists is one of Australia’s busiest specialty contact lens practices. We fit contact lenses for routine vision correction as well as complex eye conditions, including:
- Keratoconus
- Post-corneal graft eyes
- Irregular corneas
- High prescriptions
- Dry eye disease
- Ocular surface disease
- Corneal scarring
- Complex astigmatism
- Orthokeratology and myopia control
We offer soft contact lenses, rigid gas permeable lenses, hybrid lenses and scleral contact lenses. Each lens is selected and customised according to the patient’s eye shape, vision needs, comfort requirements and ocular health.
Dedicated Myopia Management for Children
We are proud to be one of the early Australian practices to develop a dedicated myopia control clinic for children with progressive myopia.
Myopia, or short-sightedness, is becoming increasingly common in children. Progressive myopia can increase the risk of eye disease later in life, making early detection and active management important.
Our myopia management options may include:
- Orthokeratology
- Myopia control contact lenses
- Myopia control spectacle lenses
- Axial length monitoring
- Lifestyle and visual behaviour advice
- Ongoing progression tracking
Dr Mark Hinds is a Fellow of the International Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control, reflecting his advanced training and experience in this area.
Dry Eye, Keratoconus and Advanced Eye Disease Care
Our practice has a strong clinical focus on dry eye disease, ocular surface disease, keratoconus and corneal irregularity.
These conditions often require more detailed assessment than a standard eye test. We use advanced imaging, tear film assessment, corneal analysis and clinical examination to guide management and monitor change over time.
For patients with more complex needs, we may work collaboratively with ophthalmologists, rheumatologists, general practitioners and hospital eye departments to support ongoing care.
Independent Optical Care and Premium Eyewear
As an independent practice, we are not part of a franchise or buying group. This allows us to carefully select the spectacle lenses, frames, sunglasses and contact lenses we believe are best suited to our patients.
Our optical team can assist with:
- Premium prescription spectacles
- Designer frames
- Prescription sunglasses
- Multifocal lenses
- Occupational and computer glasses
- Children’s eyewear
- Sports and performance eyewear
- Lens replacement into suitable existing frames
We aim to provide optical solutions that are functional, comfortable, durable and suited to each patient’s individual visual needs.
Collaborative Care with Hospitals and Specialists
We are involved in co-management and ongoing care for patients referred from ophthalmology departments and specialist clinics, including patients with keratoconus, post-graft corneas, corneal irregularity, myopia progression and specialty contact lens requirements.
If you have been referred from the RBWH, PA Hospital, Queensland Children’s Hospital, Mater Hospital or another ophthalmology service, please bring your referral letter and any relevant hospital information to your first consultation.
If you have been referred for keratoconus, we also recommend reviewing our keratoconus information before your appointment.
Our Commitment to Patients
We are proud to be part of the Teneriffe and greater Brisbane community.
Our goal is to provide careful, thorough and personalised eye care in a professional and welcoming environment. Whether you need a routine eye examination, new glasses, contact lenses, children’s vision care, dry eye treatment or complex corneal management, our team is here to help.
